The Gallery: In September of 2000 Susan and I opened a small Gallery-Showroom near our home in Thomaston, Maine. The gallery provides an avenue to display our art works and many of the contemporary hand knotted rugs that I have designed. We still show with other galleries and the rugs can be found in various showrooms. After working from home for many years, it was a need of mine to have a more personal connection to the people who collect and admire our Art. Combining a passion for textile design, painting and printmaking into a lifelong self-supporting career for over thirty-five years, it is my desire with this web site to reach a wider global audience, to expand the creative possibilities for my work and to hopefully start new challenges and friendships in the art community. My formal Art training was in painting and printmaking. I started working digitally in 1987. Over time I hope I have found a way to create computer-generated works that have Fine Art sensibilities. Recent advancements in technology make it possible to output digital work in formats that are archival to museum standards. I like to think of my art as a meditative blending of textures and architectural themes into a tranquility of color, design and ethereal wonder. Decorative but not without sophistication. It is hard to pin down one specific classification for my art but soft geometric abstraction comes to mind. Most of the work's inspiration is derived from my surroundings. Nature, the beauty and ever-changing weather of Maine; from fireflies to icy riverbanks, the enjoyment of walking the land is a visual treat that stimulates my creative energy. In conjunction with my prints and paintings, I have designed fabric for Knoll, HBF and freelanced many designs for fabric, bedding, menswear, and wall covering. In the coming months I hope to delegate more of my time to painting on canvas. I have been blessed with a wonderful family, a devoted and supportive spouse, and the luxury of living with beauty and style. Tim Van Campen |
